The miracle of life is something that many would be parents the world over want to have a chance to experience. However, some people are plagued with fertility problems and spend years trying to conceive.

General Information:

There are some things that you have no control over; however, many factors are under your control. Women are at their most fertile when they are between twenty and twenty-nine years old; from there it is all downhill and the chances of your getting pregnant decrease.

The foods you eat can either increase or decrease the likelihood of your getting pregnant. If you want to get pregnant, then avoid alcohol, tobacco and taking drugs. These affect both men and women negatively and should be avoided as much as possible. Exercise on a daily basis but do not overdo. Men in particular should avoid too much bike riding.

Getting Help:

For some people, fertility problems run in the family. If you have a genetic problem, then you will need to seek professional help. There are some things that a doctor can do to help a couple to conceive; these methods may work for you.

The doctor may prescribe medication to help you conceive or he or she may recommend that you consider artificial insemination. A doctor's recommendations will be made after examining both partners and learning of both of your family histories.

However, many people do not feel comfortable taking the medical route when trying to conceive. Some medications have unpleasant side effects. It is expensive to have artificial insemination.

It is often better for a couple to try natural methods for getting pregnant before seeking medical help. Once you have tried eating right, having enough exercise but not overdoing, and making love at the right times of the month, but to no avail, you should then consider getting medical help as a last resort.
