It is important to keep up pet health care. Don't self treat ear problems in dogs and cats. The ears are very sensitive. Infections and inflammations of the ear canal can be caused by allergies, seborrhea (oil gland problems), foreign bodies in the ear like Fox tails in the Western USA, fleas in the canals, or yes ear mites, for a few examples. Have your pets ears examined by your veterinarian before setting off on a home treatment regimen. You can cause more harm than good.
The more knowledgeable you are, the better able you will be to be active in the pet preventative health care plan for your dog or cat. Always remember that seeking online veterinary advice is never a substitute for a physical exam and minimum data base medical work up by your veterinarian. Be wary of sites that promise definitive (final) diagnosis and treatment regimens; real ethical veterinarians would not give a definitive diagnosis, direct or prescribe treatment without having seen your pet in person.
It should always be information to discuss with your primary care veterinarian.
